Hangzhou Tech Tour: Alibaba, the Six Little Dragons and What You Can Actually Visit

A Hangzhou tech tour puts you inside the city that produced Alibaba, DeepSeek and Unitree. It is China’s most compact tech cluster: Alibaba’s campus, AI Town and the robotics companies of Binjiang are all within a 40-minute drive of each other, and Shanghai is about an hour away by high-speed rail. This guide lists the 20 tech companies headquartered in Hangzhou, explains which of the famous “Six Little Dragons” receive visitors (two do not), names the two public robot halls where you can see all of them, maps the districts and gives a sample 2-day route.

A Hangzhou Tech Tour Guide for Executives and Investors

Until 2025 most foreign executives knew Hangzhou for West Lake and for Alibaba. Then DeepSeek released its R1 model, Unitree’s robots danced on China’s New Year television gala, and the city became the symbol of a new kind of Chinese tech company: small, research-heavy and headquartered far from Beijing and Shenzhen. Since then, as Reuters and Rest of World have reported, Hangzhou has become one of the main stops for the executives, investors and students travelling to China to see its technology first-hand.

This guide is written for leadership teams, investors and innovation groups planning a China tech tour that includes Hangzhou, whether as a destination in its own right or as the day trip from Shanghai. Every company location below was checked against the company’s own website or its stock-exchange filings, and every statement about visits comes from the company itself, from a government source or from our own expedition records.

Updated 27 October 2026. Company locations checked against company websites and stock-exchange filings; visitor access as publicly stated by each company or a government source.

Key takeaways

  • Hangzhou is Alibaba’s home and the headquarters of the “Six Little Dragons”: DeepSeek, Unitree, Deep Robotics, BrainCo and Manycore (Game Science, the sixth, is actually headquartered in Shenzhen).
  • 20 tech companies are headquartered in Hangzhou, clustered in four districts: Yuhang, Xihu, Binjiang and Gongshu. Factory tours are in a fifth, Qiantang.
  • Alibaba’s Xixi campus has a visitor centre, but Alibaba publishes no booking page: visits run through the city tourism bureau, chambers of commerce or invitation. DeepSeek receives nobody; Unitree shows its showroom by invitation only and says it sells no visits.
  • Two public robot venues exist: the Six Little Dragons hall in Xihu (reservation via WeChat, sells out weeks ahead) and the Binjiang embodied-intelligence centre (ticketed, 140+ robots).
  • Two days cover the city: Yuhang (Alibaba and AI Town) on day one, Binjiang and Xihu (robotics, video tech, Alibaba Cloud) on day two. Non-stop trains from Shanghai take about 47 minutes; most take about an hour.
  • InfluChina groups have visited Alibaba, Intelligence Indeed and INFIFORCE in Hangzhou; three of the expeditions described in section 8 had a Hangzhou leg.

1. Why Choose Hangzhou for a Tech Tour?

Three reasons make Hangzhou different from the other Chinese tech cities.

  • It is Alibaba’s home. Alibaba Group’s Xixi campus, Alibaba Cloud’s headquarters, Ant Group’s Z Space campus, Cainiao’s logistics headquarters and the start-ups that grew up around them are all in the city. If your business depends on Tmall, Taobao, Alipay or the Qwen models, Hangzhou is where the decisions are made.
  • It is the home of the “Six Little Dragons”. In early 2025 Chinese media gave that name to six Hangzhou start-ups: DeepSeek, Unitree, Deep Robotics, BrainCo, Manycore and Game Science (South China Morning Post). They are the reason so many groups now add Hangzhou to a China tech tour, even though two of them do not receive visitors at all.
  • It is compact. Shanghai and Shenzhen each need three days to cover; Hangzhou’s companies sit in four districts that can be covered in two, and the city pairs naturally with Shanghai, about an hour away by high-speed rail.

The numbers behind the reputation, from the city’s 2025 statistical communiqué: GDP of 2,301.1 billion yuan, up 5.2% and the eighth largest among Chinese cities; digital-economy core industries worth 678 billion yuan, or 29.5% of GDP; and 460 billion yuan of revenue in the AI core industry, up 23.1% in a year. The Hurun Global Unicorn Index 2026 counts 25 unicorns in Hangzhou, fourth in China after Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, with DeepSeek as the year’s most valuable new entrant.

If your priority is hardware and the supply chain, read our Shenzhen tech tour guide; for consumer platforms, chips and EVs, our Shanghai tech tour guide. Hangzhou is the city for digital commerce, AI and robotics.

2. Which Tech Companies Are Headquartered in Hangzhou? (20 Companies)

The table lists technology companies whose headquarters, or principal executive office, is in Hangzhou. Where a company’s listed entity or factory sits elsewhere, we say so.

Source: company websites, annual reports and stock-exchange filings, checked 23–27 October 2026. Visitor information is as publicly stated by each company or by a government source; visits are arranged with each host and confirmed per programme.

Three notes on listings, because they are often reported wrongly: Supcon trades in Shanghai and, through depositary receipts, in Zurich, not in Hong Kong; Cainiao is not listed, having withdrawn its Hong Kong IPO in 2024; and Hikrobot’s IPO application has been suspended repeatedly, most recently in September 2026.

Two names often placed in Hangzhou are not headquartered there. Game Science, the studio behind Black Myth: Wukong and the sixth “dragon”, is headquartered in Shenzhen; only its development studio is in Hangzhou. And Geely Auto, the Hong Kong-listed carmaker, has its head office in Hong Kong, although its parent group, Zhejiang Geely Holding, is in Binjiang.

3. The Six Little Dragons: Which Ones Can You Visit?

The Six Little Dragons are the most requested names on any Hangzhou tech tour, so it is worth being precise about access.

CompanyWhat they doDistrictReceives visitors?
DeepSeekOpen-weight AI models (V and R series)GongshuNo. Security staff turn visitors away at the door
Unitree RoboticsQuadruped and humanoid robotsBinjiangBy invitation only; a lobby notice says it offers no paid visits
Deep RoboticsQuadruped robots for industryXihuNo public visitor programme found
BrainCoBrain-computer interfacesYuhang (AI Town)Yes. Demonstration centre for delegations
Manycore Tech3D design software and spatial AIGongshuNo public visitor programme found
Game ScienceGames (Black Myth: Wukong)Headquartered in Shenzhen; only its studio is in Hangzhou (Xihu)No public visitor programme found

Source: company websites, ITHome (February 2025), El País (March 2025) and The Paper (May 2026), checked 27 October 2026.

DeepSeek has no visitor programme and no public reception. When El País went to its Hangzhou building in March 2025, security staff said nobody was allowed in; ITHome reported the same a month earlier. Any organizer promising a “DeepSeek visit” is promising something the company has never offered.

Unitree shows its showroom by invitation, and a notice in its lobby, repeated on its contact page, says the company offers no paid visits. A group with a credible business reason can request a meeting; a tourist group cannot buy one.

BrainCo is the opposite case. Its brain-science demonstration centre in AI Town receives delegations, as The Paper reported in May 2026, and it was one of the hosts of the venture-capital expedition described in section 8. Deep Robotics and Manycore publish no visitor programme; meetings there are arranged case by case.

The place to see all six at once is the Wensan Future Tech Experience Center in Xihu district, opened in March 2025 as the “Meet the Six Little Dragons” hall (Hangzhou.com.cn): a terminal to chat with DeepSeek, Unitree humanoids that shake hands, Deep Robotics robot dogs, BrainCo’s brain-computer interface and bionic hand, Manycore’s cloud design software and a playable Black Myth: Wukong demo. Reservations go through the “文三GO” WeChat mini-program and sessions sell out weeks ahead; the city says overseas groups visit weekly. One more connection worth knowing: the founders of DeepSeek, Deep Robotics and Manycore all studied at Zhejiang University (Hangzhou Daily), which is why the university’s Zijingang campus in Xihu sits at the centre of the city’s start-up map.

4. Where Are Hangzhou’s Tech Districts?

Hangzhou’s tech companies cluster in four districts, factory tours in a fifth, and a good route follows them rather than jumping across the city.

  • Yuhang, west of the city (Future Sci-Tech City): Alibaba’s Xixi campus, Cainiao’s headquarters, AI Town (BrainCo, Intelligence Indeed), Dream Town (Rokid) and Alibaba’s Digital Ecosystem Innovation Park (INFIFORCE). This is the densest cluster and the natural first day. Hangzhou West station, 78 minutes from Shanghai Hongqiao, serves it directly.
  • Xihu, between Yuhang and the centre: three separate tech sites. Zijingang Sci-Tech City holds Alibaba Cloud’s global headquarters, Zhejiang University’s main campus and Westlake University; Yunqi Town in Zhuantang is the cloud-computing town Alibaba Cloud and the district built from 2013, with the traditional venue of the Apsara Conference; and Wensan Digital Life Street has the Six Little Dragons hall. Ant Group’s Z Space campus and Deep Robotics are also in Xihu.
  • Binjiang, on the south bank of the Qiantang River: the national high-tech zone, home to NetEase, Zhejiang Geely Holding, Leapmotor, Hikvision, Hikrobot, Dahua, Supcon and Unitree, with 78 listed companies and the public embodied-intelligence centre. This is Hangzhou’s hardware, video-technology and robotics base.
  • Gongshu, north of the centre: DeepSeek’s registered office and Manycore’s headquarters; the district is building what it calls China Computing Valley.
  • Xiaoshan, south-east: Zeekr’s executive offices, the airport, the two big event venues (the Hangzhou International Expo Center, where the G20 met, and the newer Hangzhou Grand Convention and Exhibition Center), Xiaoshan Robot Town with its Robot Expo Center, and the Olympic business district where Leapmotor bought land for a new headquarters in May 2026.
  • Qiantang, east along the river: the manufacturing district, with 22 industrial-tourism bases including GAC Motor, Geely, Gree, Changan Ford, Joyoung and Wahaha, plus the Xiasha university park. An AI itinerary and a manufacturing itinerary point to different parts of the city.

5. What Can You Actually See on a Hangzhou Tech Tour?

As everywhere in China, companies are not open campuses. Visits are arranged in advance through official channels or an introduction, and they take one of these formats:

  • Alibaba’s Xixi campus: the campus has a visitor centre and visit routes opened in 2020, but Alibaba publishes no booking page. Visits have always run through Hangzhou’s tourism bureau programmes, chambers of commerce or an invitation; a 150-company foreign delegation toured the campus and Cainiao’s headquarters in April 2026. On our expeditions, hosts have included a project manager from the Qwen AI team and account managers from Tmall.
  • Demonstration centres and showrooms: BrainCo’s brain-science centre in AI Town, Dahua’s exhibition hall in Binjiang and Hikvision’s 1,200 m² smart hall, which receives groups by arrangement.
  • Start-up briefings: a presentation and questions with the founders or business-development team of companies such as Intelligence Indeed, INFIFORCE or Rokid.
  • Public robot halls: the Six Little Dragons hall in Xihu and the embodied-intelligence centre in Binjiang, listed in the table below. They are the only places in the city where a group can see Unitree humanoids without an invitation from the company.
  • Factory floors: Qiantang’s industrial-tourism bases (GAC Motor, Geely, Gree, Changan Ford, Joyoung) have official booking rules, most for groups only. Further out, the Zeekr plant at Hangzhou Bay in Ningbo takes partner delegations, and Leapmotor builds its cars in Jinhua.
  • Ecosystem meetings: incubators in Dream Town and AI Town, local investors and the foreign founders who have set up in the city. Zhejiang University, where three of the Six Little Dragons’ founders studied, opens its campus to the public by WeChat booking but publishes no delegation programme.

6. A Sample 2-Day Hangzhou Tech Tour Itinerary

An example route. The companies on any real programme depend on your sector and on each host’s availability.

  • Day 1, Yuhang: Alibaba’s Xixi campus in the morning, with a briefing from a business unit relevant to your group (cloud and AI, or Tmall and international trade). AI Town in the afternoon: BrainCo’s demonstration centre and a briefing at an AI-agent or embodied-AI start-up. Dinner with local founders.
  • Day 2, Binjiang and Xihu: the embodied-intelligence centre or Dahua’s and Hikvision’s halls in the morning (Unitree only if the company has agreed to receive the group), then the Six Little Dragons hall or Alibaba Cloud’s area in Xihu and a session on how Chinese AI companies are regulated and financed. Evening train to Shanghai, or a last night by West Lake.
  • Optional Day 3: a Qiantang factory tour (GAC Motor or Geely) for manufacturing groups; Shanghai, about an hour away (see our Shanghai tech tour guide); or the Zeekr plant in Ningbo for groups focused on electric vehicles.

7. Hangzhou, Shanghai or Shenzhen: Which Is Better for a Tech Tour?

Most groups combine Hangzhou with one of the two larger cities. The table shows what each one is best for.

On our October 2026 tech and AI expedition, the Hangzhou day combined Alibaba’s campus, Intelligence Indeed in AI Town and INFIFORCE, where the group watched a robot-arm teleoperation demo and was briefed by the founding team.

9. Tech Events in Hangzhou Worth Planning Around

September is Hangzhou’s tech week. In 2026 the Apsara Conference (22–24 September), the Global Digital Trade Expo (23–27 September) and the Xihu Lunjian security conference (23 September) overlapped, and the city now runs them as one linked week. A tour timed around it gives access to product launches and to the Alibaba ecosystem in one place, at the cost of scarce hotel rooms.

10. How to Get to Hangzhou and Plan the Trip

  • From Shanghai: the fastest non-stop trains from Shanghai Hongqiao reach Hangzhou East in about 47 minutes; most trains take about an hour, with a published second-class fare of 87 yuan. For Yuhang, trains to Hangzhou West take 78 minutes. From Hangzhou East, Metro Line 19 reaches Future Sci-Tech City in about 22 minutes.
  • To the other tech cities: about 4.5 hours to Beijing by high-speed rail, about 6 hours to Shenzhen by rail or 2 h 15 min by air.
  • By air: Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport, 27 km east of the centre, passed 50 million passengers in 2025 and served 31 international destinations in 2026. Non-stop flights from Europe are scarce (Madrid, three times a week); Emirates flies daily from Dubai. For most European and American groups, flying into Shanghai and taking the train is simpler.
  • Visas: ordinary-passport holders from 50 countries can currently enter China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, under a policy valid until 31 December 2026; others, including US citizens, may qualify for 240-hour visa-free transit, and Hangzhou’s airport is a designated port for it. Our China business trip guide covers visas, payments and apps.
  • Lead time: allow several weeks to request company visits, more for large groups or for Alibaba; the Six Little Dragons hall sells out weeks ahead.
  • Interpreters: briefings at start-ups are usually in Chinese; plan professional interpretation for every meeting.
  • Group size: smaller groups get founder time; larger groups are limited to demonstration centres, public halls and campus tours. Several venues cap groups (the Binjiang centre at 40, GAC Motor at a minimum of 20).

11. Organizing a Hangzhou Tech Tour With InfluChina

InfluChina organizes bespoke China business tours for leadership teams, investors and business schools, and Hangzhou is on most of them. We build the route around your objective, request the company visits, reserve the public halls, brief each host, provide interpreters and handle hotels and transfers between Shanghai and Hangzhou. Because we are also a China marketing agency that works with Tmall, Rednote and Douyin every day, we can add sessions on how Chinese consumers actually use the platforms you will visit.

Investors can start with our China investor tours for VCs; corporate teams with our corporate delegations. For the wider picture, read our China tech tour guide and our China AI tour guide.

Frequently Asked Questions: Hangzhou Tech Tour

A Hangzhou tech tour is a business trip built around visits to technology companies in Hangzhou: Alibaba’s campus, AI and robotics start-ups in Yuhang’s AI Town and Dream Town, the video-technology and robotics companies of Binjiang and the city’s public robot halls, with briefings, demonstration centres and meetings with founders and managers.
20 technology companies are headquartered in Hangzhou, including Alibaba, Alibaba Cloud, Ant Group, Cainiao, NetEase, Zhejiang Geely Holding, Zeekr, Leapmotor, Hikvision, Dahua, Supcon, Hikrobot, Unitree Robotics, Deep Robotics, BrainCo, Intelligence Indeed, INFIFORCE, Manycore Tech, Rokid and DeepSeek.
The name Chinese media gave in early 2025 to six Hangzhou tech start-ups: DeepSeek (AI models), Unitree Robotics and Deep Robotics (robots), BrainCo (brain-computer interfaces), Manycore Tech (3D design software) and Game Science (the studio behind Black Myth: Wukong, which is actually headquartered in Shenzhen). All six are shown together at the Wensan Future Tech Experience Center in Xihu district.
No. DeepSeek has no visitor programme and does not receive groups; reporters who went to its building were turned away by security staff. The closest you can get is the DeepSeek chat terminal at the Six Little Dragons hall in Xihu.
Only by invitation. Unitree shows its showroom to selected groups, and a notice in its lobby and on its website says it offers no paid visits. Its humanoids can be seen without an invitation at the Hangzhou Embodied Intelligence Exhibition and Application Promotion Center in Binjiang, which is ticketed and open to the public, and at the Six Little Dragons hall in Xihu.
With an arrangement, yes. Alibaba’s Xixi campus in Yuhang has a visitor centre and visit routes, but Alibaba publishes no booking page; visits run through Hangzhou’s tourism bureau programmes, chambers of commerce or an invitation. InfluChina groups have been hosted there by the Qwen AI team and by Tmall account managers.
At two public venues: the Hangzhou Embodied Intelligence Exhibition and Application Promotion Center in Binjiang (opened March 2026, ticketed, 140+ robots from Unitree, Hikrobot, Dahua and others) and the Wensan Future Tech Experience Center in Xihu (the Six Little Dragons hall, by reservation). The Xiaoshan Robot Expo Center shows industrial robots.
Yes, in Qiantang district, which has 22 industrial-tourism bases with official booking rules: GAC Motor’s Hangzhou car plant, Geely’s Qiantang plant, Gree, Changan Ford and Joyoung among them. Most admit groups only. The AI and robotics companies are in other districts, so a factory day and an AI day are different routes.
Two days: one in Yuhang for Alibaba and AI Town, one in Binjiang and Xihu for robotics, video technology and Alibaba Cloud. Many groups add it to a Shanghai programme, since the two cities are about an hour apart by high-speed rail.
By high-speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao: non-stop trains reach Hangzhou East in about 47 minutes and most trains take about an hour; trains to Hangzhou West, the station for Yuhang’s tech cluster, take 78 minutes. Hangzhou also has its own international airport, Xiaoshan, with a daily Emirates flight from Dubai.
Ordinary-passport holders from 50 countries can currently enter China visa-free for up to 30 days for business, under a policy valid until 31 December 2026. Others, including US citizens, may qualify for 240-hour visa-free transit, for which Hangzhou’s airport is a designated port. Check the current rules for your passport before you book.
